How to Maintain a Wooden Cutting Board

There are just a few steps needed to keep your wooden cutting board in top shape. The process takes about 10 minutes, with an additional few hours of drying time. It should be repeated monthly.

Remember: Wooden boards never go in the dishwasher. They will warp and crack, leaving the surface susceptible to food borne contamination.

Step 1:

Sprinkle coarse salt on the cutting surface. Using a half of a lemon, massage the coarse salt all over the cutting surface. This removes any embedded smells from having cut garlic or onions on the board.

Step 2:

Wash the cutting board in warm water with a mild dish detergent.

Step 3:

Dry the surfaces with a dish towel or paper towel.

Step 4:

Massage a food grade mineral oil into the two cutting surfaces and sides of the wooden board. I like to use the Boos Block Board Cream.

Step 5:

Leave your board to dry for a few hours or overnight. Repeat process monthly to ensure the wood stays hydrated and food safe.
